Hello GOA visitors!

posted February 12th, 2011 in Site News

I had some of my photos posted at Global Overland Association as part of their February trip of the month to Shenandoah National Park. If you’re coming from there, welcome! I’m in the process of updating my gallery here to include photos; for now, feel free to check out the digital abstracts and CG terrains.

More updates in progress

posted January 27th, 2011 in Music,Site News

There’s a new CD viewer in testing, although it’s not “done-done,” so it’s not linked from the main music page. It pulls in cover art and Amazon associate links for just about every CD in my collection. As a result, I would not recommend loading it if you have limited bandwidth: 160x160px images for 800+ CDs. If you’re interested, you can check it out here.

I’m also in the process of beefing up the page for my music, including sub-sites for each of my recording projects. Currently, there are three recording projects, including Synaptic Disturbance, instrumental prog rock, Asymptotic Taste, moderately-unlistenable but fun-to-make improvisational noise, and Tianopta, electronic music. Right now basically all of the sites are stubs, but feel free to check out the music overviews and click through to BandCamp to listen to the music.

Arkham Horror

posted January 15th, 2011 in Gaming,Site News

We finally got a chance to try out Arkham Horror, which somebody had given us as a wedding present, last weekend. Since then, we’ve played it far more times than you might expect for one week, given its 2-4 hour play time. Then again, we have yet to beat it, so that’s probably encouraging replays. Tonight we’re going to try 8 players, which is the max, and see if we can manage to win on strength in numbers!

I’m in the process of adding Amazon affiliate links for a lot of the content on the site, primarily the CD list (and eventually DVD and Book lists). Lo and behold:

Art Gallery Update (part 1)

posted January 12th, 2011 in Site News

I just made some changes to the gallery interface, including displaying larger images in the main template and providing a back button instead of just linking straight to the JPG.  This is probably something I should have done a long time ago.  I also hope to get an interface set up at some point to sell prints.  First I’d like to find a site that has reasonable middle-man charges.

Also, I have noticed one or two places that my pictures have shown up on other websites without asking me first (although at least they credited back here, even if only in text and without an actual link).  If you want to use something for some reason, please contact me at dan@uptonart.net and we can work something out.

Adding affiliate links

posted January 3rd, 2011 in Site News

Something I’ve been meaning to do for a while now is add affiliate links to Amazon for my CD list.  Maybe I should look into adding iTunes affiliate links as well.  I did the first step tonight by writing a back-end interface to add cover art and Amazon affiliate links (where available).  I’ll also have to change the CD list viewer to take advantage of the information, but the more pressing point is the (long, boring) work of adding the links to 802 CDs.  But hey, maybe somebody will buy a CD through the links here and it will be worth it, right?
